What Is Pat Testing?
PAT Testing stands for portable appliance testing and is essentially the testing of electrical appliances in the work place.
The Electricity at Work Regulations places a legal responsibility on employers, employees and self-employed persons to comply with the the Electricity at Work Regulations and requires that reasonably practicable steps are taken to ensure that no danger results from the use of appliances in the workplace and equipment of this nature. This results in the need for a systematic and regular program of maintenance, inspection and testing – most companies achieve this by using a PAT Testing services such as the ones offered by DJP Testing Service Ltd.
The level of inspection and testing required is dependent upon the risk of the appliance becoming faulty, which is in turn dependent upon the type of appliance, the nature of its use and the environment in which it is used.
The Institution of Electrical Engineers published the “Code of Practice for In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment”. This guide forms the basis for portable appliance testing in the U.K and is what DJP Testing Ltd based much of their working practices from.
